All living form is an echo of the past, not a literal copy of the past unassimilated. But the past gives form to and sets into motion the present and prepares it to continue into the future. In Mexico, objects for use and objects of beauty go hand in hand in order to progress. Culture is not a passive legacy: it is preserved only when an effort is made to guard it and to perpetuate the best.
